Doo-wop is a style of vocal based rhythm and blues music, which developed in African american communities in the 1940's and which became popular in the 50's and 60's. The term Doo-wop was not used at the time but was coined later. The term used most often at the time was vocal group harmony.
The Villages Doowop clubs
Doowop clubsouth meets on 2nd Sunday of month starting in June 2011. All events are scheduled to meet at Colony Cottage rec. center. 6pm
D.W.O.P. (Doowop On the Porch) Meets every Saturday in the Gazebo opposite Sonnys BBQ, Sumter landing. 9:30-11:30 am. Agenda includes: discussion of vocal harmony groups, listening to recordings of the doowop era, singing along and enjoying the friendship of like minded Doowop connosoirs.
