What is Doowop?
Doo-wop is a style of vocal based rhythm and blues music, which developed in African american communities in the 1940's and which became popular in the 50's and 60's. The term Doo-wop was not used at the time but was coined later. The term used most often at the time was vocal group harmony.
The Villages Doowop clubs
Doowop club south meets on 2nd Sunday of month starting in June 2011. All events are scheduled to meet at Colony Cottage rec. center. 6pm
D.W.O.P. (Doowop On the Porch) Meets every Saturday in the Gazebo opposite Sonnys BBQ, Sumter landing. 9:30-11:30 am.
Agenda includes: discussion of vocal harmony groups, listening to recordings of the doowop era, singing along and enjoying the friendship of like minded Doowop connosoirs.
Forever Young singing group
can be seen the following places; 2019
JAN, 25, 1:30 Doors open at 1:10 Laurel Manor Rec.
Thereafter; every 2nd Friday at 1;30 at Big Cypress rec.
4th Friday at Laurel Manor rec. 1:30
Remember when singing group
Can be seen every other Friday at Captiva Rec. center (1:30)
Back in Time group
at Moyer rec. 2:00pm.
1st. Thursday
